Dan grew up on a farm on the Frederick County/Carroll County border, working his way through Mt. St. Mary's College and the University of Maryland as a lifeguard, restaurant server, dairy farm and Ag worker, and high school government teacher. At the Mount he was a NCAA I Decathlete, being privileged to train under famed Olympic Coach Jim Deegan. After building his first home with his dad and family in 1999, he moved with his wife and children to Virginia in 2003 to attend law school. Studying under national security experts former Joint Chiefs of Staff Admiral Vern Clark, former U.S. Attorney General Ashcroft and Supreme Court litigator Jay Alan Seculo, he gained valuable training and experience pursuing his lifelong interest to serve this great country and to contribute in guiding the law, which desire to serve heightened after the 9/11/01 terror attacks.
Dan, his wife Valerie and their family live in Frederick County, Maryland where he practices law.

Dan has worked for over 20 years fighting for the rights of individuals, families, small businesses, schools and farms, first as an advocate speaking for Maryland families before the Legislature, and later as an elected Town Councilman and Council President. In 2016 Dan was the Republican Nominee for the House of Representatives in the United States Congress, District 8 of Maryland, which stretches from the Pennsylvania border with Frederick County all the way to Takoma Park outside of Washington D.C. Dan has served as an attorney working for the last decade defending the inalienable rights of his clients, and is the son of Rev. Gary and Sally Cox.
Dan and his bride Valerie celebrated 21 years of marriage this past June and have eight children, one daughter in college and a son who is serving in the United States Army (Airborne) whose beautiful wife recently birthed their first grandchild.
Dan is a Political Science honors society alumnus at Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Md., completing his Bachelor’s degree in Government from the University of Maryland, University College, where he studied National Security and International Political Terrorism at Ft. Meade, Md. He received his Juris Doctor from Regent University School of Law in Virginia Beach, Va., With Distinction, where he was a third year law student licensed by the Supreme Court of Virginia, litigating in court for the indigent.
Dan and Valerie and their children attend church in Frederick County and they are active in their children's sports and in community activities.
